Communities in 114th District earn recycling coordinator grant
HARRISBURG, June 22 – State Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich announced the state Department of Environmental Protection has awarded grants to Luzerne and Wyoming counties via its County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program.
“Recycling is a vital part of caring for our counties,” Kavulich said. “I’m happy to see the regions I represent were able to benefit from this program that helps defray the costs they incur to reduce our environmental footprint.”
Luzerne received a $20,587 grant and Wyoming received $33,589. The grants will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the recycling coordinator’s salary and expenses under provisions of the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act, Act 101 of 1988.
The purpose of this program is to fund the coordinator’s tasks including development of recycling programs, recycling public education programs, preparing municipalities’ grant applications and collecting and reporting program data to DEP by April 1 each year.
