Mullery: Grants available for local recreation, conservation projects

HARRISBURG, Jan. 19 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is accepting applications for the Community Conservation Partnerships Program through April 20.

"Luzerne County municipalities and nonprofit organizations that are planning and developing recreational facilities, parks, and trails or conserving open space should look into this grant program," Mullery said.

Mullery said most projects require matching funds, except for some technical assistance grants and projects that rehabilitate playgrounds to meet safety standards.

Mullery said DCNR will hold a free workshop 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 3 at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke to help applicants prepare a successful grant application. To register for the workshop, go to www.dcnr.state.pa.us/calendar under the workshops-grants calendar. The snow date is Feb. 4.

Mullery said municipalities and organizations that want help with their project in advance of the workshop should contact their regional advisor at DCNR by calling 1-800-326-7734.

Complete details about the program are available on DCNR's website at www.dcnr.state.pa.us.
