Mullery will not accept COLA
HARRISBURG, Nov. 30 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, will not accept an automatic cost-of-living increase set for lawmakers in 2011.
"I am returning to the state treasury the automatic COLA that is set in law because I don't see how, particularly during this difficult economic time, we can take a raise of any sort," Mullery said. "Just as importantly, I will work to change that law so that lawmakers and other elected officials are not automatically given a raise under any circumstance."
Pennsylvania lawmakers are set to receive an automatic 1.7 percent cost-of-living allowance, which was made law in 1995.
"We are in the dawn of new government that is open and accountable to the people that elected them, and an automatic pay raise flies completely in the face of that," Mullery said.
