Goodman reacts to Corbett's budget address
HARRISBURG, Feb. 7 – State Rep. Neal P. Goodman, D-Schuylkill, released the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Corbett's budget address to the legislature today:
"In today's global economy, higher education is critical for our commonwealth and country. That's why I am concerned about the proposal to cut funding to state-related universities by 30 percent and state-owned universities by 20 percent. Those cuts will lead to higher tuition bills, and would make it more difficult for children of working families to earn a college degree that they need to secure their future.
"I'm also concerned about the proposal to cut funding for the state Department of Environmental Protection by $10.5 million, particularly when the agency's responsibilities are increasing with the growth of the natural gas industry.
"However, today's speech was just the first step in a long process. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do what's best for all Pennsylvanians."
