Goodman inheritance tax bill gets committee hearing

HARRISBURG, Oct. 17 – State Rep. Neal Goodman’s bill to repeal Pennsylvania’s inheritance tax was the topic of a state House Finance Committee meeting today.

“I have supported abolishing this unfair tax for many years, and I’m my pleased that my legislation has been vetted,” said Goodman, D-Schuylkill. “Hopefully, this will start to build momentum to end this tax once and for all.”

Now that a hearing has been held, Goodman said he’s hopeful H.B. 1464 will be voted out of the Finance Committee so the full House of Representatives can consider the legislation.

“I’m sure many of my colleagues agree with me that this tax needs to be abolished,” Goodman said. “It’s a double tax. It imposes a second tax on property that was already taxed when a person was living.”

Goodman added that abolishing the tax would put more money in the hands of Pennsylvania, and help the state’s still-fragile economy.
