Mann elected House Democratic Caucus secretary

HARRISBURG, Nov. 18 – State Rep. Jennifer L. Mann, D-Lehigh, today was elected to House leadership as the Democratic Caucus secretary for the 2009-10 legislative session.

As secretary, she will be responsible for certain administrative duties, including tracking votes on the House floor and working with leadership to develop legislation and policy.

"I will do my best to serve the caucus and my constituents well as secretary," Mann said. "I'm honored by my colleagues' faith in my abilities by choosing me for such an important position."

During her tenure as a legislator, Mann has led efforts to increase children’s safety by writing legislation to criminalize the viewing of child pornography, improve school safety, and require more information about sexual offenders to be listed on the Megan’s Law Web site.

In addition, she had a key role in enacting a law that protects the rights of mourners at funerals, has co-sponsored legislation to prevent gang violence, and has strongly supported the creation of a single-sales factor to make Pennsylvania more business-friendly. She is a top advocate for increased public school funding and a more equitable distribution across school districts.

Mann serves on the Consumer Affairs, Education, Environmental Resources and Energy, Finance, Insurance and Transportation committees. She is the co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition, the Community College Caucus and the Arthritis Caucus. She was first elected to the legislature in 1998.
