Brennan bill would honor veterans
HARRISBURG, March 10 – State Rep. Joe Brennan, D-Lehigh/Northampton, recently reintroduced legislation that would allow Pennsylvania's honorably discharged veterans to be lawfully excused from work on Veterans' Day.
"I am reintroducing this bill from last session because it seems appropriate to me that veterans should have the right to observe the special day that is named after them," Brennan said. "This bill is not a mandate for payment on the lost day, but ensures that veterans may have the day as their own, without risk of punishment."
Under Brennan's legislation, H.B. 889, veterans would be permitted to indicate to their employers that they would like to be excused from work on Veterans' Day. Employers could either grant these employees a paid day off or simply approve the employee's request without remuneration.
