Boyle hosting first charity basketball tournament April 4-5

Proceeds to benefit the Fraternal Order of Police Survivors Fund


PHILADELPHIA, March 26 -- State Rep. Brendan F. Boyle, D-Phila./Montgomery, announced today that the first "Rep. Brendan Boyle Charity Basketball Classic" starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4 at George Washington High School, 10175 Bustleton Ave.  


"As a newly elected state representative, one of my top priorities is organizing community events that encourage our kids and teenagers to take part in healthy and safe activities like sports," Boyle said. "I am excited to host my first annual basketball tournament for our local seventh- and eighth- grade boys and girls, with proceeds benefiting an important local charity."


Boyle said he has invited all local elementary and middle schools from the 170th Legislative District to each enter one boys and one girls team for a weekend of community fun.


Boyle said autographed items from the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles, gift cards and gift baskets will be raffled off, and food and refreshments will be sold with all proceeds from the raffle and food sales will go to the Fraternal Order of Police Survivors Fund. 


The free tournament is open to the public. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 and play will continue through the next day. For more information, please contact Boyle's office at 215-676-0300.
