Pa. unemployment call line now open Sundays

HARRISBURG, Jan. 14 State Rep. W. Curtis Thomas, D-Phila., announced that Pennsylvania's toll-free unemployment call-in phone number is now open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The toll-free phone number, where people can file a claim or have their unemployment compensation questions answered, is 1-888-313-7284.

Thomas said the additional call-in hours will help the Department of Labor and Industry increase access to services for laid-off workers. In addition to the new Sunday hours, the toll-free unemployment call line is also available from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Every day, more people become eligible for unemployment compensation as the economy continues to slip downward," Thomas said. "The Sunday hours will help the department better manage its call volume and alleviate some frustration for residents who are seeking immediate help."

Thomas said claimants who still have difficulty getting through on the toll-free telephone line should consider calling in the afternoons or later in the week, or filing their claim online.
