Josephs to urge Mayor Nutter to reject local immigration enforcement link
at a Thursday a.m. news conference
HARRISBURG, Aug. 19 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., will participate in a news conference tomorrow to speak out against a new data system that makes local police the contact point between immigrants and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
The news conference will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 in Room 401, City Hall.
Joining Josephs will be other elected officials, including Councilmen Maria Quiñones-Sánchez and James Kenny, and faith and community leaders.
The officials say that this new data system sacrifices the mission of integrating immigrant populations into the community, endangers the success of community policing, imposes costs and threatens the human and civil rights of all Philadelphia residents.
Media coverage is invited.
