Josephs: Pennsylvania is prepared for Election Day, deterring voter fraud

HARRISBURG, Oct. 21 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, chairwoman of the House State Government Committee, said today that she believes there is not likely to be any severe problems during Election Day on Nov. 4.

The State Government Committee held a hearing last month to discuss Pennsylvania's readiness for the upcoming election. Josephs said that members of the committee were satisfied with the preparedness level of the Commonwealth.

"As a result of the hearing, we were satisfied that the state and its 67 counties are doing everything humanly possible in a bipartisan manner to make sure that all the voter rolls are accurate, those registered are able to vote and that their votes are counted," Josephs said. "We believe that the measures utilized by the counties and Department of State will minimize fraud and protect the integrity of our electoral system."

Josephs' statement supports that of Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortés who said the Department of State has received no complaints from counties about Pennsylvania's State Uniform Registry of Electors centralized voter system. Cortés said SURE is designed to assure the accuracy and integrity of the state's voter registration records by several different means, and that the recent lawsuit filed by the state GOP concerning the validity of voter registrations appears to be an attempt to undermine voters' confidence this close to the election.
