Lowery Brown recognized for taking a lead role in PA Backs Haiti
HARRISBURG, Nov. 5 – State Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown, who took a lead role in Pennsylvania's efforts to help earthquake-stricken Haiti, was recently recognized for her work by The Haitian Professionals of Philadelphia.
"It was part of my duty as a public servant to do what I could to help ease the suffering by our brothers and sisters in Haiti," said Lowery Brown, D-Phila. "I am honored to be among those who received the Global Citizenship Award for Leadership in Helping Haiti. But this recognition reminds me that so many people in Haiti are still suffering, and much work remains to be done."
Soon after the magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti, Lowery Brown began working with a coalition of state and city leaders to collect medical supplies. She later met with Gov. Edward G. Rendell's staff and took a lead role with PA Backs Haiti, a bipartisan relief effort led by the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus.
Brown was recognized during a reception at Philadelphia City Hall arranged by The Haitian Professionals of Philadelphia in collaboration with Councilwoman Jannie L. Blackwell and the Mayor's Commission of African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs.
