Grants for emergency responders now available
HARRISBURG, Aug. 11 – State Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Fayette/Washington, announced that the application period for the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant program will open Monday and end Sept. 9.
“I urge all of my local fire companies to look into this and other grant opportunities available through the federal and state government,” Daley said. “Firefighters are selfless heroes in our local communities, rushing out during all hours of the day and night to help their neighbors. I can’t say enough about the men and women who volunteer. It is important to recognize that running a fire department and maintaining and acquiring the necessary equipment and training takes money. Raising money takes up a lot of our volunteer firefighters’ time and energy.
“Through grant opportunities, like this one and the state’s Volunteer Fire Company, Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, which will open for applications in September, our volunteers can spend more time training.”
The Assistance for Firefighters Grant is making available over $404 million for career, volunteer and combination fire and non-affiliated EMS departments to apply for certain equipment, training and wellness and fitness needs. It is administered through the federal Department of Homeland Security.
