Parker urges Pa.’s active-duty service members and their families to apply for Military Family Relief Assistance Program

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 15 - State Rep. Cherelle L. Parker, D-Phila., said that Pennsylvania’s active-duty service members and their families should take advantage of the Military Family Relief Assistance Program.

“Our service members and their families endure an enormous amount of hardship; this program brings us one step closer to helping our military families find relief from the financial pressures of their service,” Parker said. “If we do not take advantage of this opportunity, we will be sending the message that we do not need the help. It is my belief that all help, whether big or small, can make a difference. Therefore, I encourage all Pennsylvania service members and their families to apply for Pennsylvania’s new Military Family Relief Assistance Program.”

Active-duty members of the Armed Forces who are residents of Pennsylvania are eligible to apply for assistance if they serve:

o       30 or more consecutive days of active duty with the Pennsylvania Army or Air National Guard or Reserve Components of the Armed Forces ( Army Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve or Coast Guard Reserve) as well as the active Armed Forces ( Army, Air Force, Navy, Maries or Coast Guard);

o       30 or more consecutive days of state active duty in the Pennsylvania Army or Air National Guard for emergencies or duty under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.

Eligible Pennsylvania service members and their eligible family members who wish to apply for assistance can visit the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Web site at www.dmva.state.pa.us for program guidelines, frequently asked questions and to download an application.

Applications and more information can also be found in Parker’s constituent service office.
