State Rep. Steve Santarsiero, D-Bucks, presented Christine Edmonds and Elle Petrock Kaplan, both of Newtown Borough, with a copy of House Resolution 485, which designated November 2013 as “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.” He also thanked them for all their work through A Love for Life Foundation, which raises money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer treatment and research. The foundation was formed in memory of Christine Edmonds' husband Kevin Edmonds and sister-in-law Nora Edmonds who lost their lives to Pancreatic Cancer. Pancreatic Cancer is one of the deadliest cancers with 74 percent of diagnosed patients dying within the first year of diagnosis and 94 percent within five years. Approximately 1,950 deaths will occur in Pennsylvania in 2013.

State Rep. Steve Santarsiero’s resolution commemorating the American lives lost in the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, and encouraging Pennsylvania’s school districts to incorporate the events into their government, social studies and history curriculums at the elementary, middle and high school levels passed the House on Sept. 24, 2013. Santarsiero was joined in delivering the resolution by Tara Bane-Dellacorte, Russa Steiner and Ellen Saracini who each lost their husbands in the Sept. 11 attacks, as well as Grace Godshalk, who lost her son. All four are from Bucks County. Valerie Mihalek, dedication coordinator for the Garden or Reflection Remembrance Program, was also present for the resolution’s passage.
