On Dec. 17, Rep. Shapiro convened a meeting of the Legislative Audit Advisory Commission to review and approve the audit of the financial affairs of the General Assembly for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008. The LAAC, which Shapiro chairs, approved the audit, made recommendations to tighten financial controls within the legislature, and recommended a policy be adopted to limit the legislative surplus.
On Dec. 15, Rep. Shapiro joined 20 other electors for the 56th Pennsylvania Electoral College to cast his electoral vote for President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden, thereby honoring the votes of more than 3 million Pennsylvanians.
