 Rep. Surra receives the the Legion of Honor Humanitarian Award from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the memory of four World War II chaplains who went down with the American troop ship U.S.S. Dorchester when it was sunk by a German torpedo in 1943. The Legion of Honor is awarded to publicly recognize service to the community and the nation without regard to race, religion or creed. Rep. Surra was honored for his consistent service to and voting record on behalf of veterans. Other notable Legion of Honor Awardees have included Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman, Gov. Ed Rendell and Gen. Colin Powell. The award was presented to Rep. Surra by Lawrence Babitts, a member of the Chapel of the Four Chaplains board of trustees.
