Appropriations - subcommittee chairman on fiscal policy This committee handles nearly every piece of legislation that could have a monetary impact on Pennsylvania. It is the key panel in helping to form yearly state budget proposals. Each spring, the panel holds hearings on the governor's budget proposal and other related budgetary matters. The committee also has the power to subpoena anyone to appear before it to answer questions on matters being inquired into by the committee, including data on any funds administered by the Commonwealth, and require them to produce information necessary to the inquiry. Climate Change Advisory Environmental Resources and Energy This committee deals with environmental and energy matters, including water and air quality, natural resources and sold waste issues. Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Judiciary This committee deals primarily with legislation affecting law enforcement and corrections. It also provides oversight of 13 department and panels, including the State Police, Attorney General, Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Board of Pardons, Department of Corrections, State Ethics Commission, Board of Probation and Parole, Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing, Pennsylvania Crime Commission and the Crime Victims Compensation Board, along with training and education boards for law enforcement officers and coroners. The committee frequently visits county and state prisons and juvenile detention facilities to look at conditions and rehabilitation programs and see how they are dealing with expanding inmate populations. State Government This committee deals with election, administrative and state constitutional law, as well as oversees the Human Relations Commission, the Civil Service Commission and the State Horse and Harness Racing Commission. |
