ACHDD: 24 local projects awarded more than $4.8 million in Allegheny County gaming grants

Grants will help fund library renovations, blight removal, flood control among other projects

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 26 – The Allegheny County House Democratic Delegation announced today that two-dozen local projects – from a basketball court and library renovations to blight removal and urban farming initiatives – have been awarded more than $4.8 million in funding through the Allegheny County Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund.

“Today we are announcing funding for a dozen projects across our region, and I want to congratulate all of the organizations and volunteers who were selected or worked on these projects,” said state Rep. Austin Davis, the Allegheny County House Democratic Delegation chair. “They represent an important investment in our community, but we can, and should, do more. Pennsylvania starts this year with a historic surplus of funds, and if the legislature can end its partisan deadlock, it could make generational investments in our schools, communities and families.

“Today we celebrate these investments and the projects they will help fund – but we can, and should, work together to make the further investments that our commonwealth needs to be a leader.”

Funding awarded today includes:

  • $150,000 for improvements to the Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale;
  • $200,000 for public park improvements in West Mifflin;
  • $150,000 for flood control measures in Plum;
  • $179,000 to help fund a basketball court rehab and park improvements in Avalon;
  • And $75,000 for blight removal in Port Vue.

The grants were among a number that are funded by the Allegheny County Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund, which is financed by gaming activity in the county. The fund is administered by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
