Venkat: Over $600,000 in traffic safety grants awarded to McCandless, Hampton townships

Grants to help fund improvements to roadway safety

HARRISBURG, Jan. 4 – Today, state Rep. Arvind Venkat, D-Allegheny, announced $626,483 in state funding for his community.

These grants, funded by the state Transportation Department’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement program, are:

  • $451,483 for McCandless Township – to upgrade accessible pedestrian signals, equipment for flashing yellow arrow operations, controller replacements and rewiring of existing signal equipment.
  • $175,000 for Hampton Township – to improve safety for South Pioneer Road, including the replacement of an out-of-date guiderail.

“Safety should always be the highest priority for every community,” Venkat said. “These grants will help provide safety to the roadway and overall transportation in these townships, something every community should be able to expect.”

This funding comes from the ARLE program aiming to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue.
