Davis celebrates completion of Clairton Inn Project
Historic hotel transformed into affordable, quality housing and retail space
CLAIRTON, July 29 – State Rep. Austin Davis, D-Allegheny, attended a ribbon-cutting today to mark the completion of the Clairton Inn Project, which features 49 affordable housing units, retail and commercial opportunities and space for the anticipated relocation of the Clairton Public Library.
The $16.7 million development renovated and preserved the historic Clairton Inn building, a former hotel built in 1902, and removed several surrounding vacant and blighted buildings on Miller Avenue.
“About two years ago I was here to break ground on this redevelopment project, but the planning involved in this project began long before that,” Davis said. “I want to thank all of the people and organizations who were involved in that -- and who refused to quit when the going got tough. Your hard work and dedication brought us to where we are today.”
Davis was instrumental in working with the developer, city and county leaders, and local organizations to secure state tax credits to help make the project a reality.
“The completion of the Clairton Inn honors the city’s past while building a brighter future,” Davis said. “I’m proud this project focused on creating affordable housing for folks in Clairton while also investing in creating opportunities that will attract people downtown to boost the local economy. The Clairton Inn is a shining example that we can reshape the heart of Clairton and create meaningful, positive change that the people of this city deserve.”
