Rep. Kirkland announces grant for walk-in freezer at Eddystone Elementary
EDDYSTONE, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Brian Kirkland, D-Delaware, announced a $25,524 grant for Eddystone Elementary School in Ridley School District for purchase of new food service equipment for its cafeteria.
The funding, made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and awarded to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program with 50% or more of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals, will help Eddystone Elementary purchase a walk-in freezer.
“It’s common knowledge that healthier, happier students are proven to perform better,” Kirkland said. “This grant will help Eddystone Elementary upgrade its food storage system so it can continue to prepare healthy meals necessary to student development.”
Kirkland added that the grant is part of more than $925,000 in competitive grants awarded to 72 elementary, middle and high schools across the state, as announced Tuesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
