Bellmon sworn in to represent 203rd District in state House

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 6 – State Rep. Anthony Bellmon, D-Phila., was sworn in recently to the state House where he will represent the 203rd Legislative District, which encompasses Olney, Lawncrest, Lawndale, Castor Gardens and Oxford Circle.

“It is my great honor to represent the residents of the 203rd District and I look forward to working every day to support legislation and initiatives that make their lives better,” Bellmon said.

Bellmon, born and raised in the Northwest section of Philadelphia, attended Mount Greylock Regional High School in Massachusetts after being accepted into the A Better Chance program at age 13. He was the first in his family to go to college, graduating from George Washington University with a bachelor's degree in political science. As a former educator in Philadelphia and Trenton, New Jersey, Bellmon says his experience in the classroom and in the school’s administration reinforced his belief that education is the most powerful tool to transform the lives of the young people in underserved communities.

Prior to his election, he worked for eight years in the office of U.S Rep. Brendan F. Boyle, D-Phila. As a constituent service representative, he helped residents solve housing, student loan and immigration issues. As senior advisor to the congressman, he worked on Capitol Hill advancing policy issues to better the lives of children and working families.

His priorities are cleaner and safer communities, education and workforce development, mental health access, and care for senior citizens, to name a few.
