Bellmon announces committee appointments for 2023-24 legislative session

HARRISBURG, March 9 – State Rep. Anthony Bellmon, D-Phila., said he’s been appointed to serve on the PA House Children and Youth, Housing and Community Development, Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development, and Transportation committees for the 2023-24 legislative session.

As a freshman member of the House, Bellmon said his committee assignments will help him better focus on how the state intersects with the needs of Philadelphia and his priorities, including the health and safety of his community, safe and quality schools, and workforce development.

“As a former educator, I believe that the lives of the young people in this traditionally underserved community play a crucial role in the future of this district,” Bellmon said. “We need to nurture and protect them. My seat on the Children and Youth Committee will allow me to continue to advocate for the youth of this district.

“I am also excited for the chance to serve on the Housing and Community Development and the Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development committees. I have dedicated much of my time working on these issues in Philadelphia. Advancing policy on the development of affordable housing and parks in our communities will not only create better lives for children and their families, but also improve and protect the attractiveness of the city.

“Many people in this community and our region depend on SEPTA for school, work or sightseeing. With federal infrastructure funding allocated to our commonwealth, I’m ready to get to work and will use my platform on the Transportation Committee to restore roads and bridges in our city and continue to fix any issues with our local public transportation system, making it safer and more accessible to riders.”

Bellmon was sworn in to his first term in January representing the 203rd Legislative District, which includes Olney, Lawncrest, Lawndale, Castor Gardens, and Oxford Circle.
