PSOH designates Rep. Bizzarro 2020 Legislator of the Year

HARRISBURG, Sept. 25 -- State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, said today he is honored to be recognized by the Pennsylvania Society of Oncologists and Hematologists as the 2020 Legislator of the Year.

Bizzarro accepted the award at the 2020 PSOH Annual Scientific Meeting today, held virtually this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“This award means so much to me. I have a particularly profound appreciation for the work, knowledge and care these medical professionals provide. I am deeply moved to be recognized by PSOH. This award will serve as a consistent reminder to continue my advocacy for cancer patients, access to quality care, research and ultimately cures for all cancers,” Bizzarro said. “Health care is not a partisan issue, and we must fight for the lives of all those afflicted with cancer.”

Dr. Edward Balaban, DO, FACP, FASCO, and PSOH board member, had this to say about Bizzarro, “As a survivor of childhood leukemia, Representative Bizzarro knows firsthand the struggles our patients face on a daily basis. As a member of the PA House Cancer Caucus, he uses that experience to champion the causes of cancer patients and to craft legislation that strives to improve the delivery of life-changing therapies for Pennsylvanian’s cancer patients and their families. It is an honor to recognize Representative Bizzarro as the 2020 recipient of our Legislator of the Year Award.”

The Pennsylvania Society of Oncology and Hematology represents more than 200 physicians and other health care professionals caring for cancer patients.
