Bizzarro holds annual 'Treasury Hunt' on Saint Paddy’s Day

Event at district office helps residents hunt for unclaimed property

ERIE, March 16 – It’s estimated that 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property, with an average claim of about $1,500. Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, welcomes anyone to his office on Saint Patrick's Day for help in retrieving the millions of dollars lost in Pennsylvania every year due to unclaimed property.

The Pa. Treasury receives hundreds of millions of dollars in unclaimed property every year, often because of something as simple as a misspelled name or an out-of-date address.

Examples of unclaimed property include closed bank accounts, uncashed checks, paychecks, lost stocks and bonds, contents of safe deposit boxes, expired gift cards/certificates, and proceeds from the demutualization of insurance companies.

Bizzarro’s office will help residents file for these unclaimed properties if they stop by the District Office (101 Peninsula Drive, Suite 213, Erie, PA 16505) between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. March 17. FREE notary service will be on hand for claims and findings that apply.
