Millcreek Township receives recycling performance grant award

More than $112,000 awarded to township for recycling 7,007.3 tons in one year

ERIE, March 24 – Today, state Rep. Bizzarro, D-Erie, announced that Millcreek Township received a Recycling Performance Grant award of $112,200.30 for its recycling efforts in 2020.

“Communities in our region take recycling and reducing waste seriously,” Bizzarro said. “Our state government has programs to reward these efforts and I’m glad to see that Millcreek was given a grant to build on the ways that we work together to reduce waste and increase what’s reused.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection administers the grant program under the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act. The grant awards are based on the total tons recycled in the previous year by the municipality applying for the grant.

In 2020, Millcreek Township recycled 7,007.3 total tons of residential and commercial recyclable materials, which include newspaper, office paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, metal cans, glass bottles and recyclable plastics.

“Representative Bizzarro has been so supportive of our efforts in Millcreek to recycle and ensure our community does its part to limit waste,” said Jessica Stutzman, Millcreek Township recycling coordinator. “This grant money will enhance our efforts in education and programming, making it easy and convenient for all residents in Millcreek to recycle.”
