Bizzarro announces more than $120K in safety grants for Erie schools

More than $15K approved for Leadership Christian Academy

ERIE, Feb. 10 – The state has approved more than $120,00 to help make Erie County schools safer, state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro said.

“The state made a sizable commitment today and dedicated these funds to protecting students, teachers and staff to help make our schools safer,” Bizzarro said. “Education should always be a priority, and these grants will allow our local schools to focus and concentrate on learning while staff and students are in a safe and secure environment.”

The grants are issued through the competitive Safe Schools Targeted Grant program. Bizzarro highlighted the $15,776.64 headed to Leadership Christian Academy in Fairview, a school in his legislative district.

Other Erie schools approved through the grant program include Girard School District ($50,000), Warren County Christian ($50,000) and Mercyhurst Prep ($5,145). The total amount awarded to Erie County schools is $120,921.64.

Today’s announcement continues Bizzarro’s efforts to allocate state money to properly fund schools, nonprofits, first responders and local businesses in his district. So far this year, Bizzarro has helped secure more than $960,000 in state funding for Erie County projects – including $742,888 in January alone.
