ERIE, Feb 12 – Much-needed funding is on the way to support local fire and emergency management service companies in Erie County, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie) announced Thursday.
The Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant program, administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, delivers formula-based funding to eligible fire and EMS companies, along with rescue squads in Pennsylvania. In Bizzarro’s district, the following companies have been awarded grant funding totaling $113,115.57:
- Belle Valley Fire Department: $13,250.94
- Fairview Fire & Rescue: $13,250.94
- Kearsarge Fire Department: $13,663.17
- Lake Shore Fire Department: $12,632.59
- Millcreek Township Bureau of Fire Incident Response: $15,930.44
- Millcreek Paramedic Service: $15,000
- West Ridge Fire Department: $14,899.86
- West Lake Fire Department: $14,487.63
“I’ve always been a staunch supporter of our first responders. They show up on our worst days with courage and professionalism, and they answer the call for help without a second thought,” said Bizzarro, who represents Millcreek and Fairview Townships. “That’s why it’s our responsibility to answer theirs by investing in our first responders, giving them the proper training and equipment needed to keep everyone safe. When we fund our first responders, we strengthen the entire community.”
A total of $37 million was awarded to 2,510 fire, EMS and rescue companies across the state through this round of grant awards. Grant funding can be used for facility and equipment upgrades, recruitment and retention efforts, education and training.
The announcement builds on Bizzarro’s efforts to secure state funding for local priorities. During this legislative session, Bizzarro has helped secure more than $31.4 million in state funding for projects and services that help people in the Erie region.
