Prestigious PA House scholarship now accepting applications

The program, which is privately funded, awards a four-year scholarship to two students

EBENSBURG, Jan. 3 – High school seniors or their families looking for financial assistance with college can now apply for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ Scholarship program, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced today.

Each year the program, which is privately funded, awards a four-year scholarship to two students preparing for post-secondary education.

“I want to make sure families in our community are aware that this scholarship exists, and encourage them to apply,” Burns said. “One of the very first winners of this scholarship was from our region, and I’m hopeful that future winners will be as well. But you must apply in order to be selected.”

The program is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents with plans to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students must have attained a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in high school in order to be eligible. Other factors taken into consideration for the awards are a student’s commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need.

The scholarship program is administered through the Foundation for Enhancing Communities. The application is available through the foundation’s web site at:

The application deadline is March 1.
