Burns announces $75,000 in grants for Penn Cambria, Central Cambria and Cambria Heights

Grants awarded to local schools will help increase student career readiness

EBENSBURG, Jan. 6 – With attracting new businesses to Cambria County as a top priority, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced that a new round of state grant funding will help forge connections between employers and local schools, ensuring that Cambria County has the workforce it needs to compete in the 21st century.

Part of the Teacher in the Workplace Program, the $75,000 in grants will allow teachers from Cambria Heights, Central Cambria, and Penn Cambria school districts to visit local employers and learn which skills and industry trends to highlight and promote in their classrooms and career readiness programs.

“As our economy continues to change it is critical that we align our education efforts with the needs of our local businesses,” Burns said. “When students have job skills they can use the day after graduation, and local employers know they have a pipeline of job-ready candidates, everyone wins.”

The Teacher in the Workforce program is managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is funded through federal dollars. Eligible applicants include local education entities, businesses and chambers of commerce, labor organizations, postsecondary institutions, community-based organizations, public libraries, trade associations, and economic development entities.
