Burns lands another $105,000 for technology in local schools

Grants build on 2019 investments, total $175,000 for school tech, training

EBENSBURG, Jan. 17 – Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced a $105,000 state investment in school technology and training that was awarded to three Cambria County School Districts.

“We all know that the jobs of tomorrow are going to be technology based -- we see it happening already in our factories and industries,” Burns said. “These grants will help enable our schools to teach our kids to be ready for that future, and to help our local economy grow.”

The grants announced today were awarded to Cambria Heights, Conemaugh Valley and Forest Hills school districts. Last year two area school districts were also awarded $70,000 through the same program, bringing the state investment in school technology and training to $175,000.

The $35,000 grants are used to help schools introduce and expand computer science programming and to provide educators from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 with training to teach computer science.

Burns’ relentless push for job creation and economic development has led to millions in state investments in Cambria County in workforce and education initiatives to prepare youth for the jobs of tomorrow and to entice employers to move to the region by having a technology-ready workforce.

“Whether it’s encouraging small businesses or pushing large employers to consider investing in our community, I’m dedicated to making sure Cambria County is an environment where businesses can succeed,” Burns said. “And I will continue to fight for the funding to make sure we have the same opportunities as other regions.
