Burns: Grab-and-go meals for kids available during the summer

Free meals help youth stay healthy outside of school

EBENSBURG, June 8 – With the end of school year upon us, state Rep. Frank Burns is reminding area families that free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches will be available for children throughout the summer months at a number of locations in Cambria County.

In his district, that includes:

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Gallitzin Public Library.
  • Noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Portage Public Library.
  • Noon to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Patton Public Library.

Additional sites may be open throughout the summer, and more information is available by texting ‘FOOD’ to 877-877.

“Hunger doesn’t take a break just because the school year ends,” said Burns, who, through food drives and other activities, has sought to support families and youths. “I want to thank the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and all of the organizations that are involved in organizing and hosting this program. In these difficult, times this program is more important than ever.”

The program is available to all youth 18 or younger. There is no cost or signup required. A flyer with a full list of locations and hours of availability in Cambria County can be found here.
