Burns secures $20K grant for Dean Twp. roof replacement

Supervisor: ‘No way’ township could fund project without grant

LORETTO, Oct. 29 – When Dean Township officials asked state Rep. Frank Burns about helping them fund a new roof for their municipal building, Burns and his team leapt into action – and today announced he has secured a $20,000 state grant to fund the project.

As a former township supervisor, Burns, D-Cambria, knows how hard it can be for local officials to balance the needs of the public while protecting taxpayers by maintaining a fiscally conservative budget.

“It doesn’t matter if the project is large or small, in Ebensburg or Dean Township – I’m always looking for creative ways to bring state and federal money to our communities,” Burns said. “Since taking office I’ve helped secure more than $200 million in funding and investments, and I’ll never stop fighting for the communities I represent.”

Dean Township supervisors came to Burns’ office seeking help to replace the roof on the municipal building. With fewer than 400 residents, fixing the roof was not financially feasible for them.

“We’re such a small township with a small tax base. Without the grant funding, there’s no way we’d ever be able to replace the roof. We’d only have been able to patch it,” said Supervisor John Wagner. “Frank’s done a lot for us and I appreciate that. Frank’s been right there all along, guiding us. Without Frank, we never would have got this far.”
