Burns: $2.6 million available for pre-apprenticeship programs
Program encourages school-business partnerships

HARRISBURG, March 22 – Continuing his work to seek opportunities for students and employers, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today is urging local employers to consider applying for a $2.6 million state program.
The Schools-to-Work Grant program is designed to support partnerships among schools, employers and organizations to create employment and training career paths for students. The goal is to create hands-on learning opportunities for students, including apprenticeships, workplace visits and internships that will create career paths to employment or secondary education.
“When we talk about creating good, family-supporting jobs, one of the best ways to do that is to create links between our schools and employers, to ensure that young men and women are learning the skills they need to succeed,” Burns said. “I encourage local employers to consider this program and contact my office if they need help applying.”
Eligible applicants must be an entity that is or will be registered with the Department of Labor and Industry as a pre-apprenticeship program, and must be partnered with at least one school in a school district, charter school, regional charter school, cyber charter school, intermediate unit or career and technical school. Grants will be awarded competitively and in increments of up to $250,000. Learn more about the Schools-to-Work Grant program here.
