Burns: $50,000 state grant delivered for repairing Brownstown VFC building
New roof, foundation work on tap for Volunteer Firemen’s Club

EBENSBURG, May 9 – A desperately needed new roof and foundation repairs are coming to the Brownstown Volunteer Firemen’s Club, courtesy of a $50,000 state grant obtained by state Rep. Frank Burns.
“They contacted our office for help to repair their building,” Burns said, “And we got them what was needed to prevent further water damage.”
Robin Murphy, club steward, said two fire trucks are housed in the building, which she’s been trying to improve since assuming that position in 2020.
“We had a water leak in the roof, which we had repaired, but we still needed a new roof. And the foundation is letting water into the basement, where we have both fire trucks parked,” Murphy said. “Somebody suggested us trying for a grant to cover the cost; I don’t think they ever tried for a grant (before).”
Murphy said she contacted Burns’ office for the first time in June 2023 and the effort paid off within months.
“I did have help from (his) office, because I had no idea where to begin,” Murphy said. “We’re very grateful for the money. We just can’t keep up with the (required) old-building repairs.”
Burns said he recognizes the key role volunteer firefighters play in ensuring public safety, especially in rural areas, and his legislative record is littered with funding successes to assist their efforts.
