EBENSBURG, May 15 — State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, is once again hosting a Seniors for Safe Driving course next month to help those 55 and older refresh their driving skills and save money on their car insurance.
The course, which is approved by the state Transportation Department, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16 at the Ebensburg Municipal Building, 300 W. High St., Ebensburg.
“Local seniors often tell me how much they appreciate this event, so I’m happy to host it again,” Burns said. “It’s important for seniors to feel safe behind the wheel, and especially these days, it’s important for them to save money on their insurance, too.”
Participating seniors will receive a 5% discount on their automobile insurance for three years, and all insurance companies in Pennsylvania must accept it. That discount is mandated by state law and makes the $17 class more attractive to many seniors.
The course will involve classroom instruction only, with tips on regaining lost confidence, increasing awareness, and maintaining a positive driving attitude. There will be no on-the-road driving or in-class testing.
Interested participants must RSVP by calling either of Burns’ district offices at 814-472-8021 or 814-536-8400 and providing their driver’s license number. Space is limited.
Participants will be asked to pay the $17 fee at the event.
