Carroll holds Black Author School Tour at Roosevelt Middle School

Rep. Andre D. Carroll, D-Phila., visited Roosevelt Middle School today with Black author and music artist Chill Moody.

This visit was the third stop on Carroll’s Black Author School Tour, an effort to bring attention to local authors, get children involved and excited about reading, and celebrate Black artists in the community.

Chill Moody, the Philadelphia native, hip-hop artist, and founder of We Golf Now, read from his new children’s book, “Gia the Golfer.” The book follows themes of believing in oneself, self-confidence, and belonging.

“Days like today make me so proud to be a legislator and represent the people of the 201st,” said Carroll. “I want to say thank you to Chill Moody for joining us and getting our youth involved in reading and thank you to Roosevelt Middle School for allowing us to come and get the children excited about reading! Reading is so important for the growth of young minds, so being able to do it in a fun and engaging way, while also highlighting Black local authors, is a win for our community.”

The Black Author School Tour is an initiative that Carroll and his office created to highlight Black authors and artists in and around Philadelphia during Black History Month.
