HARRISBURG, Oct. 27 – State Rep. Nikki Rivera, D-Lancaster, praised the Shapiro Administration for investing more than $441,000 in community revitalization projects locally.
The state Neighborhood Assistance Program provides tax credits to businesses that contribute to nonprofit organizations’ efforts to revitalize communities. Through the NAP, businesses can receive tax credits of up to 95% for contributions they make to a qualifying community project. Projects must fall into one of the following categories: affordable housing programs, community services, crime prevention, education, job training, or neighborhood assistance.
“Our residents are struggling to find affordable housing,” Rivera said. “These tax credits will help increase housing stock in our area as well as strengthen outreach for the unhoused, connecting them to housing, jobs, health care, and other basic needs.”
The NAP has five main components: the Neighborhood Assistance Program, Special Program Priorities, the Neighborhood Partnership Program, the Charitable Food Program, and the Enterprise Zone Program.
The following organizations received tax credits:
Special Priorities Program
$162,000 Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity to construct eight affordable units on Wheatland Avenue in Lancaster.
$31,050 Lancaster County Food Hub to expand outreach services for neighbors experiencing homelessness including connections to housing, jobs, healthcare, and basic needs.
$209,925 YWCA of Lancaster to complete pre-construction design stage to renovate 18 affordable units, 6 efficiencies, and modernize shared spaces.
$38,250 United Way of Lancaster to expand 2 1-1 Housing & Homelessness Navigation to help individuals experiencing homelessness connect to community resources, housing support services, and shelters
