Looking Back on 2025

2025 was a remarkable year for our community and Pennsylvania. I am proud of all the work that my staff and I accomplished - providing over 26,000 constituent services, completing 450 Property Tax/Rent Rebates, and securing nearly $4 million in state funding for our district.

I also introduced 31 bills - one of which has been signed into law - and co-sponsored nearly 600 others. Here's to an incredible 2026!

THIS WEEKEND: The PA Farm Show

The Pennsylvania Farm Show kicks off this weekend in Harrisburg! You can experience the bests of Pennsylvania agriculture, including live animal exhibits, delicious farm-to-table food, family-friendly attractions and more.

The Farm Show runs from Jan. 10 - 17 at the PA Farm Show Complex (2300 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg). You can learn more, including the daily schedule and participating exhibitors, here.

LIHEAP Now Accepting Applications

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now accepting applications! This program provides cash and crisis grants to help families cover their heating bills as we head into winter. Grant amounts range from $200 to $1,000, depending on your income, household size, and fuel type.

You can apply here or contact my office for assistance.

You May Have Unclaimed Property - We Can Help!

Welcoming Our New Elected Officials

This week, several of our communities held swearing-in ceremonies for their recently elected officials, including mayors, councilors, supervisors, and school board members, and I had the incredible opportunity to join several of these events.

Spring Township welcomes two new township supervisors: Zach Zeoli and Lauren Robertson.

It was great to join my friend Samantha Kaag as she was sworn in as Mayor of West Reading.

West Reading welcomed four Borough Council members. Above are (from left) Ryan Lineaweaver, Vicki Haller Graff (new), me, Mayor Kaag, Denise Drobnick, and Justin Choate (new).

Reading swore in four city council members, including Vanessa Campos, Raymond Baker (new), Donna Reed, and Dr. Rafael Nunez.

In addition, Wyomissing saw Mayor Fred Levering and Councilors Jana Barnett, Christopher F. Valente, Kristen Gajewski, and Adam Berkeley take office, while Sinking Spring saw Councilors Robert Metzgar, Lisa Gantner, H. David Miller, and John Eagelman sworn in.

Congratulations to our re-elected and newly elected local leaders! I am excited to see the progress you make for our community and to continue our great relationship.

Celebrating Three Kings Day

It was wonderful to celebrate Three Kings Day with a screening of Roots of Solidarity. This documentary, directed by Esteban Serrano, celebrates the history of Latinos in Reading - uplifting legacy, cultural memory, and collective resilience.

Happy Three Kings Day!

Property Tax Support Events

Did you know there are programs available to help reduce your property taxes or provide a rebate on rent or property taxes you’ve already paid?

The “PA Homestead Exclusion Program” helps homeowners save on property taxes by reducing the assessed value of their primary residence before school taxes are calculated. The “PA Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program” offers rebates to eligible older adults and individuals with disabilities.

My staff will be holding two FREE events to help you learn more about these programs and process your applications. These include:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 6 - 7 p.m. at the Spring Township Administration Building (2850 Windmill Rd.) with Tax Collector Steve Skrocki
  • Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Reading Public Library (100 S. Fifth Street)

Black Health Matters Community Conversations

Black communities continue to face persistent health disparities rooted in systemic inequities. This Black Health Matters Community Conversation will bring neighbors together to discuss real solutions to improve Black health outcomes in our district and across Pennsylvania.

Let's Talk, Period

Reading Hospital, along with the Junior League of Reading and Berks Teens, will be hosting Let's Talk, Period - a judgement free, stigma-breaking event that brings medical professionals together to ensure that girls can have honest, down-to-earth discussions about puberty and periods.

The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences Sullivan Auditorium (1025 Old Wyomissing Road). They will also be collecting new and gently used bras to distribute to local agencies.

Space is limited - register here or by emailing communitywellness@towerhealth.org.

Financial Literacy Class

Not One More will be hosting Financial Literacy Classes beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20 and continuing each Tuesday for five weeks. Registration can be completed here and must be done by Jan. 18.

Mobile Mammogram Screenings Starting Soon

Routine mammograms are important to find the first signs of breast cancer. Tower Health has started their Mobile Mammography stops for 2026, with stops across our community. You can find what locations they will be at on which days here.
