Ensuring our Kids Have the Vision Care They Deserve
|
Every child who needs vision care deserves it, because having good glasses lays the groundwork for a successful future.
That is why I will be partnering with VSP Eyes for Hope to host two Children's Health Days on October 8 and 9 at Centro Hispano Casa de la Amistad (25 N. 2nd St., Reading), where VSP will host a mobile vision clinic to get eligible children glasses on-site. My staff and I will also be available to provide you with a wide variety of state services.

Congrats to the Fightin Phils!

This week, the Reading Fightin Phils won the MiLB Double-A Eastern League Championship with a 13-4 victory - marking the team's first title in 31 years. Congratulations to the whole team on this outstanding win!

Cheering on the Wilson Bulldogs
|
It was a great night at John Gurski Stadium cheering on the Wilson Bulldogs as they took on Manheim Township.
Before the game, I had the honor of joining the ROTC to help hold the American flag as we honored the servicemen and women who have served our country, including local World War II veterans. It was a special moment to recognize their service and sacrifice and to see our community come together to honor them.
Congratulations to the Bulldogs on the 17-0 victory!

Welcoming Former Dominican President Fernández
|
It was an honor to join Pastor Felipe Fana and the Reading community for "Un Encuentro con la Comunidad" at the Abe Lincoln, welcoming former Dominican President Leonel Fernández to Berks County.
Events like this remind us how connected our community is — culturally, personally, and across generations. It was meaningful to come together with neighbors and friends to celebrate that connection and to honor a distinguished guest whose work has touched so many lives.

The West Reading Fall Fest

I had a wonderful time at West Reading’s Fall Fest! It was great to see so many people out enjoying Penn Avenue, supporting local businesses, checking out the vendors, and spending time with friends and family.

Celebrating our Puerto Rican Community
|
I had a great time at the 2nd Annual El Boricuazo, brought to Reading by Palo Magazine!
It was a beautiful celebration of Puerto Rican culture, tradition, music, food, and community during Hispanic Heritage Month. From the music and food to the dominoes and local vendors, there were so many ways to celebrate what makes our Puerto Rican community special.
I want to thank Rosa Julia Parra and the entire Palo Magazine team for creating a space where our culture and traditions can be celebrated, shared, and passed down to the next generation.

Heading Back to Harrisburg
|
After a productive summer working in-district after the passage of this year's budget, my colleagues and I will be heading back to Harrisburg next week to continue working on issues that impact all of us.

Working for our Latino Community
|
As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I was proud to use my position as chair of the Legislative Latino Caucus to host a hearing in Easton on the important contributions of our Latino community to the commonwealth’s growing economy and workforce, and how we can address challenges facing Latino families and children.
I am honored to support the Latino community here at home and across Pennsylvania, and we will continue to uplift the contributions of our Latino community to our economy, culture, and commonwealth.

National Hunting and Fishing Day
|
Tomorrow, September 26, will mark National Hunting and Fishing Day. Pennsylvania is rich in game opportunities, and I am proud to support responsible hunting and fishing legislation.
To learn more about Pennsylvania's fishing and tourism industries following a recent Policy Committee meeting, I joined several of my colleagues for a fishing tour of Lake Erie, which also included a catch of my own!

Election Day is approaching, and it is important that everyone can make their voice heard at the ballot box!
You can check your voter registration, find your polling place, or sign up to vote here by October 19, and request a mail-in or absentee ballot here by October 27.
Polls will be open on Tuesday, November 3, from 7 AM – 8 PM.

African American Cultural Conversation Coming to Reading
|
The Governor’s Advisory Commission on African American Affairs is holding a statewide Cultural Conversation listening tour to hear about the lived experiences of Black communities across Pennsylvania and how to better shape policy to support them.
The listening tour will be coming to Reading at the Berks County Community Foundation (237 Court St., Reading, PA ) on Friday, Oct. 2, at 2 PM. You can register to take part in the conversation here.

Property Tax/Rent Rebate Deadline Extended!
|
Applications for Property Tax/Rent Rebates are available, and the deadline to apply has been extended to Dec. 31! This program gives money back to PA renters and homeowners for the taxes or rent they paid in 2025 -- including seniors, widows and widowers, and those with disabilities.

Many Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property -- money from dormant bank accounts, insurance payments, and uncashed checks -- and you may be one of them!

Berks Cultural Diversity Festival
|
My team will be at the Berks County Diversity Festival tomorrow, September 26, from 12 - 6 PM at City Park in Reading. The event will include a celebration of international culture, cuisine, dance, poetry, music, and more!

The Reading Roots Market will be open every Thursday from 11 AM to 2 PM at Goggleworks until October 8. In addition, every third Thursday, there will be a night market from 5 - 8 PM.

The Centro Hispano Hispanic Center has created a page to help Reading families find free and low-cost programs for children and teens. You can check out the RDG Youth Resource HUB in both English and Spanish here.

There will be a No Tricks, Just Treats family event on Saturday, October 24, from 11 AM to 5 PM at the C.E. Cole Parking Lot. There will be food, music, games, and community resources, all in the name of bullying prevention.

Holcomb Crisis Intervention in West Reading offers a free crisis program to support our neighbors experiencing varying levels of crisis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in both English and Spanish.
