Cephas celebrates grand opening of Good Shepard Senior Residencies

PHILADELPHIA, May 12 Yesterday, May 11, state Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., celebrated the grand opening ceremony of Good Shepard Senior Residencies.

“I am so happy to join in the ribbon cutting of these new senior homes,” Cephas said. “Good Shepard’s income-restricted units will fill a real need for affordable senior housing in the Overbrook community. These homes ensure our neighborhood’s senior residents have the best support services for aging in place.”

Good Shepherd is a new construction, 55-unit senior community that consists of a four-story building in the Overbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia. Of the 55 units:

  • Six are restricted to households earning at or below 20% of the Area Median Income.
  • 25 are restricted to those earning at or below 50% AMI.
  • 24 are restricted to those earning at or below 60% AMI.

“Fifty-five units is not just 55 seniors; it’s 55 neighbors, 55 families, and 55 homes,” said Cephas.

Cephas emphasized that Good Shepard Senior Residencies are designed to be accessible and will provide helpful amenities and tailored resources for residents.

The site was formerly Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, which burned down in 2016. The church will also provide social services and support to seniors on-site.
