Conklin announces Centre County charter school awarded Safe School Targeted Grant

STATE COLLEGE, Oct. 22 – The Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania Charter School was recently awarded a $24,830 Safe School Targeted Grant to provide it with funds to purchase safety and security-related equipment needs, state Rep. Scott Conklin announced today.

Conklin, D-Centre, said the competitive 2019-20 Safe Schools Targeted Grants from the state Department of Education are awarded to schools to prevent and reduce violent incidents, purchase needed equipment and provide training and compensation of school resource and police officers.

“These funds will help the school in its continued efforts to keep school students and teachers safe and secure and ensure the focus remains on learning,” Conklin said.

This funding is part of the $7.3 million in School Safety Grants that PDE is awarding to public school districts and nonpublic schools throughout the commonwealth.
