Conklin appointed to serve as House Commerce Committee chair

Previously chaired the House State Government Committee

HARRISBURG, Jan. 3 – Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre, announced that he will now serve as the chair of the House Commerce Committee to advance legislation that will protect consumers.

Previously, he chaired the House Children and Youth Committee in the 2017-18 legislative session, the House Game and Fisheries from 2019 to 2020 and the State Government Committee from 2021 to 2023.

“Now, as chair of the Commerce Committee, I will work to drive Pennsylvania’s economy forward,” Conklin said. “Through legislation, such as H.B. 1201, we have the opportunity to keep Pennsylvania open for business, all while protecting consumers’ right to privacy. Most recently, Cambridge Analytica posed a threat to national security when it utilized users’ data to disseminate misinformation on American elections, as well as the United Kingdom’s referendum on Brexit. As such, we must protect consumers’ privacy, in addition to fending off interference in our elections.”

As chair, Conklin will also work to advance legislation that protects Pennsylvanians from losing their homes and more.

The committee provides oversight of the Department of Banking and Securities, Department of Community and Economic Development, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, the Securities Commission, and the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority.
