Davidson creates Intergovernmental County Legislative Summits to increase transparency on federal, state & county issues

UPPER DARBY, Oct. 10 – State Rep. Margo Davidson, D-Delaware, in her role as chair of the House Democratic Caucus Southeast Delegation, has launched an intergovernmental public forum to increase transparency on federal, state and county issues in southeastern Pennsylvania.

These intergovernmental forums are held on a county-by-county basis, with the first taking place in Delaware County in June and the second in Montgomery County last week. At the summit, Montgomery County Democratic elected officials met with members of the public to give updates about county-wide improvement projects and participated in discussions concerning critical issues facing the commonwealth, including the economy, education, jobs, health care and the environment.

Montgomery County regional vice chair, state Rep. Liz Hanbidge, executed Davidson’s plans for the Montgomery County Legislative Summit and leveraged the experience of a wide range of state and federal officials from Montgomery County for an informative and wide-ranging summit.

Davidson and Hanbidge welcomed U.S. Congresswoman Madeleine Dean, Montgomery County members of the House Democratic Caucus' Southeast Delegation, state senators, county leaders and members of the public Monday for the first-ever Montgomery County Legislative Summit.

"As chair of the House Democratic Caucus Southeast Delegation, I understand the critical role this summit plays in achieving the delegations' goal of creating unprecedented intergovernmental cooperation that benefits all Pennsylvanians," Davidson said. "I applaud Representative Hanbidge for bringing us together and providing a platform to hold an open dialogue with the people we serve."

"I firmly believe that government transparency is the bedrock of good governance. These first-of-their kind events in Delco and Montco and in other southeastern counties in the near future will help open lines of communication between elected officials and the public.”

Other elected officials in attendance included Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners; Montgomery County state Reps. Steve McCarter, Steve Malagari, Joe Webster, Tim Briggs, Ben Sanchez and Joe Ciresi; and House Democratic Appropriations Chairman Matt Bradford.

State Reps. Kevin Boyle and Pam DeLissio, both D-Phila./Montgomery, and state Sens. Katie Muth, D-Berks/Chester/Montgomery, Maria Collett, D-Bucks/Montgomery, Vincent Hughes, D-Montgomery/Phila., and Art Haywood, D-Montgomery/Phila., also participated.

The House Democratic Caucus Southeast Delegation is a 35-member delegation, which is the largest and fasting-growing delegation in the Democratic Caucus. The delegation serves residents in eight counties: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery and York.
