Davidson announces $250K grant for Millbourne Borough infrastructure project
UPPER DUBLIN, Nov. 12 – State Rep. Margo Davidson, D-Delaware, announced Tuesday that WRD Sears L.P. has received a $250,000 state grant to fund an intersection improvement project located in Millbourne Borough. Davidson and others have long been working to secure this funding and now that Children’s Hospital is attached to the project, she said, it can finally move forward.
WRD Sears L.P. plans to develop a former Sears department store into a new warehouse and office facility on behalf of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, located at the corner of 63rd and Market streets. To facilitate this project and ensure public safety, the company will install a new traffic signal and intersection at the entrance of the site, as well as a new crosswalk. lt is anticipated 100 jobs will be created at the project site.
“Children’s Hospital is a world-class institution and a prestigious tenant. After years of hard work together with Millbourne Borough and the developer, it is very exciting to see this project moving forward. This development project will help enhance the borough's economic vitality by bringing in new jobs,” Davidson said. “I’m very glad that this grant money was awarded to ensure motorist and pedestrian safety at what will be a very busy intersection."
The funding that Davidson announced Tuesday was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania's economic growth. The CFA is unique among state agencies in that project approval requires five affirmative votes, four of which must come from the legislative appointees who compose the board, along with the secretaries of the Department of Community and Economic Development, the Office of the Budget and the Department of Banking and Securities.
The CFA provides funding for a multitude of projects that help businesses succeed, including those focused on development, water quality, energy infrastructure and more.
