DeLissio to host free Senior Expo Sept. 30
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 24 – State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio, D-Montgomery/Phila., will host a free Senior Expo from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 30 during the Roxborough Hospital Good Neighbor Day being held at 5800 Ridge Ave.
The expo will be under the tent in the lot off Rector Street. This is a rain or shine event. Masks are required.
DeLissio said she will continue to offer a diverse group of exhibitors at the expo to acknowledge the varied interests and needs of older citizens.
“Seniors are active and vital members of the community, and I’m excited to be able to bring together a diverse group of agencies and organizations that offer opportunities specifically for older adults,” DeLissio said. “Folks will be introduced to organizations providing lifelong learning and volunteer opportunities, and interesting ways to stay or become engaged with the community in which we live, work and play.”
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, Visiting Nurses Association, PECO, PGW and many other organizations will be available to provide information that older adults may find helpful. Additionally, DeLissio said she is pleased to have organizations such as Kelly’s Cats, which has furry friends looking for happy homes; Mt. Airy Learning Tree, providing educational and recreational opportunities; Community College of Philadelphia; Journey’s Way; the Roxborough YMCA; and representatives from local civic associations in the 194th District – all providing ways to remain active and involved.
“My goal is to make sure that my district’s older constituents are not only aware of the services available to them but also have access to the community resources that continue to offer opportunities to be active and participate in the community,” she said. “Staying connected and engaged in activities enhances productivity and enriches lives, no matter one’s age.”
The Roxborough Memorial Hospital School of Nursing will be providing a health fair and performing free health screenings during the expo, such as blood pressure, glucose and bone mineral density scans.
Additionally, those interested can call the hospital in advance at 215-487-4458 to schedule a flu shot.
The Senior Expo also will include free giveaways.
