DeLissio to host senior fair Thursday, Oct. 1

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 24 – State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio, D-Montgomery/Phila., will host a free Senior Expo from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 1 at Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

The Senior Expo will be held in conjunction with the Good Neighbor Day Health Fair sponsored by Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

“I’m excited to partner with the hospital, a part of the community since 1890, and under new ownership for the past several years, on this endeavor,” DeLissio said. “The Senior Expo will feature services offered by state agencies and not-for-profit organizations that provide services and programs for seniors. Thanks to my background in long-term care, I know that seniors are vital members of the community – and that older adults are interested in life-long learning opportunities and opportunities for employment, in addition to a variety of service needs.”

In recognition of those interests, DeLissio said that she plans on including a diverse group of other exhibitors such as a casting agency, as older adults are now actively recruited for a variety of acting/modeling jobs, and other organizations that specialize in older adult employment and activities.

Representatives from the Philadelphia Corporation of Aging, SEPTA, Visiting Nurses Association, Philadelphia Gas Works, Community Legal Services and many other organizations will be available to provide information.

“Seniors can receive hand massages from students of Mercy Vocational High School and learn about volunteer opportunities, as well. We are hoping to also have some senior rescue animals in need of a home available for adoption,” DeLissio said.
