DeLissio Senior Expo a success

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 2 – State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio partnered with Roxborough Memorial Hospital on Thursday for the hospital’s Good Neighbor Health Fair and her Senior Expo.

DeLissio said the turnout was outstanding despite the October chill in the air.

“I cannot thank the vendors and hospital staff enough for everything they had to offer our older adults from around the neighborhood,” said DeLissio, D-Montgomery/Phila. “It’s amazing to see what a community can do when it comes together: we brought together health screeners from the Roxborough School of Nursing, and agencies and organizations including lifelong learning opportunities, volunteer options, and civic engagement. All possess a vested interest in encouraging seniors to be active and goal oriented as the viable citizens they indeed are.”

Seniors had an opportunity to receive information and materials regarding legal issues affecting seniors, including preventive measures for recognizing crime and fraud. They also were connected with initiatives promoting educational, life-learning travel experiences. Cosmetology students in their senior year at Mercy Vocational High School plied their hand-massage skills, as well.

“Thanks to my background in long-term care, I am acutely aware of just how vital seniors are to the community and how important our community is to them,” DeLissio said. “It’s also important to remember that seniors are ever-interested in opportunities to teach, share and give back. I certainly look forward to planning another fair and building on Thursday’s success.”
