DeLuca announces Department of Aging grant for Plum Senior Community Center

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 22 – Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging Teresa Osborne announced a number of senior community center grants this afternoon.

State Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Allegheny, is proud to report that the Plum Senior Community Center will receive a grant of $15,000.

The funding was requested to expand and enhance the Center's Caregiver Support program, which offers advice and support for those providing care to physically disabled or mentally incapacitated family members at home.

"This relatively new program has already proven its value to local families," DeLuca said. "The funds will help expand the program that currently serves about a dozen families. This extra funding will permit the center to add more families and will also help the center to bring in experts to speak on family care topics such as elder abuse, Alzheimer's care and caregiver support.

"I would like to acknowledge Governor Wolf and the Department of Aging for their support of this grant and their recognition of the value of our seniors. I would also like to acknowledge the work of the center's executive director, Nina Segelson, who manages to create a full program schedule on a very minimal budget."
